Getting Published Is Easy – Doing It Right Isn’t
It’s true that getting published is now easier than ever. But these new opportunities come with new risks, challenges, choices and myths.
- Making the wrong choice will cost you dearly and make your writing journey far more difficult than it needs to be.
- Making the right choice will enable you to keep more control, command higher royalties and earn a proper full-time living from your passion.
The problem is that lots of people who know the secrets, and should be advising you truthfully, have a hidden agenda: if they can convince new authors to make the wrong decision then they’ll get paid well by the vanity publishers and other publishing outfits who are in it to take your money.
Because of this rampant bribery and trickery currently poisoning the publishing industry, it is really hard for new authors to know who to trust.
They’re Being Paid To Lead The Lambs To Slaughter
Many self-styled book coaches and unscrupulous agents (often referred to endearingly as “Book Shepherds” by the vanity presses) get paid handsomely for quite literally leading the lambs to slaughter. Then, once they herd the “sheep” towards their inevitable doom they begin to extract as much value as they can from their natural resources before slitting their throats and selling them off! So, for the sheep (and that’s how they see you if you’re a new author) the smiling shepherd that you’ve grown to trust and follow has an agenda that doesn’t involve you living happily ever after.
Don’t Have The Wool Pulled Over Your Eyes!
AuthorShock has been created to help guide budding and new authors, like you, in the right direction when it comes to choosing the right publishing route for your book. When you have the facts and information to make the right choice you simply can’t have the wool pulled over your eyes. You’ll spot the scammers and false friends easily. You’ll be enlightened by the new choice available rather than blinded by them.
- For our part, we promise to tell you the truth, give you a balanced argument and ask you the tough questions you need to answer before you begin.
- For your part, we simply ask you to keep your options open and read what’s on these pages before committing to a course of action.
As publishers who self-published our first book too, we have a wealth of experience we want to share about the new opportunities and threats presented by the changing publishing game. We have no ulterior motive other than to prevent new authors being ripped off because they were let down by their book coach, publisher or agent.
